A project that came about in 2003, Second Life by Linden Lab was a about meeting people in a virtual world as an avatar and some people really got into it. Young transient types, logged in to catch up with people they have never met. The virtual world had its own economy, people could buy add-ons, land and more. Second life is the king of metaverse.

In 2007, Open Simulator also done something similar.

To sell headsets, Facebook went all in on the metaverse and went messianic trying to sell it to the public, but it did not take and Facebook had to go deep and do a backflip. Zuckerberg was so all-in on the metaverse, he even renamed his company Meta.

People have changed, imagine the Internet coming to town, that generation embraced it and jumped on. The people of today do not embrace the new, they are scared of change.

Meta's statement: “I wanna say upfront that I take full responsibility for this decision,” he told employees morosely. “This was ultimately my call, and it was one of the hardest calls that I’ve had to make in the 18 years of running the company.” Meta was laying off 11,000 people – 13% of its workforce. Poor third-quarter results had seen Meta’s share price drop by 25%, wiping $80bn off the company’s value. Reality Labs, Meta’s metaverse division, had lost $3.7bn in the past three months, with worse expected to come.

The public opinion says that the metaverse is dead and many viewed it with suspicion as the US and China malevolent ongoing rollout of the panopticon uses tech and in doing so infects and poisons everything big tech does.

People can't handle technology and issues keep arising. The face mask looks like a feed bag, that most likely be a social problem, a family problem and a mental health problem.
